Yesterday: Rough Day For Team Butts

Yesterday our rider, Brianna, was involved in an accident.  A U-haul van appeared to be going through a yellow light, changed their mind and slammed on the brakes.   Brianna tried to swerve to miss the van but her leg was pinched between her bike and the van.  Unfortunately she broke her left leg in two places between her ankle and knee.  Brianna had surgery this morning and all went very well.   She had a rod inserted into her tibia to stabilize the leg and the fibula will heal on its own.  She has given me permission to share these photos:

She has had an amazing attitude and as feisty as ever (plus I think she has a very high pain threshold).  She insisted that Mike and Larry continue the Cannonball. She actually said she’d be pissed if they didn’t keep going.   Linda stayed with Brianna through the surgery.  Mike and Larry begrudgingly did continue today and got all their miles.  We will continue to update you on her recovery.  Brianna will likely be released today or tomorrow.

The Cannonball family has been so thoughtful and caring.  We can’t thank you enough.  Here is  a t-shirt they signed.  We were also given a Cannonball banner

One person said it best:  Brianna will have one hell of a story to tell her grandkids of how her badass grandma broke her leg on a cross country motorcycle ride.

Thanks for all your thought and prayers!!  Team Butts.

  1. I won't say what I said to myself when I saw that X-Ray! I am glad Brianna is doing OK after her surgery. Bummer that she will not be able to continue the tour. A short background -- I just happened to be in Sault Ste. Marie to see the start and I got the link to this blog from one of your team guys I saw that morning. Looking forward to following you all the way to TX! Jim Wangerin, Montague, MI.

Brianna it was only when watching the video of the start of stage 7 I saw you in plaster and in a wheel chair, remembered you blog from 2018 and have read the "bad" news !!
I got a fright especially when I saw the x ray
I hope you make a full and speedy recovery (welcome to the Titanium club LOL)
