The Cross Country Chase

If you are reading this blog, you are probably well aware that Mike has decided to do another endurance run much like the Motorcycle Cannonball.

Due to multiple people commenting if there would be a blog update throughout the race and the positivity we got from having it (plus not to mention all the fun we had); Mike, Mom and myself (Brianna) decided and figured out a way that we would manage the blog. Hopefully ya'll aren't liars and truthfully want the blog. 😂   Because Mike cannot have any support crew with him on The Chase, we are forced to stay home and not get to experience that awesome sites and sweet ass bikes. So, Mike will text me with information, pictures and/or call me and leave a voicemail (if I'm unable to pick up) and keep me updated so that I can keep you guys updated. To be fair, I really think I am the winner here because hearing Mike talk motorcycles and hearing how excited and passionate he is about them, well it's truly fun. Mike is a man of few words, so the blog will probably not be AS detailed as the one for the Cannonball, and because I or Mom won't always personally be there to witness every detail.

The Cross Country Chase

The ride will start is Sault Set. Marie, MI and end in Key West, Fl. It will begin September 6th and end September 15th. Unlike the Cannonball, the bikes need to be manufactured between 1930-1948 (the Cannonball had to be at least 90 years old). The winner of the Chase will be crowned a "Legend" -- that's new. I hadn't heard that one. My brother plays a game that you can become the Legend...I want to say it's Settlers of Catan.

Another thing that is different about the Chase is that the riders do not get to have a support crew. All of the tools, parts, luggage, everything -- has to be on the motorcycle. They have a certain amount of time throughout the day to get 250-300 miles in on a certain route, they may have some planned stops and check points to make. The Navigation Map is given the day of the ride, with turn by turn instructions based on mileage. Another thing added is that Riders will have to answer 100-question test that covers American Motorcycling history. The result of this test counts toward the final score for the rider.

Here are the stages of The Chase:

Mike has been working endlessly on bikes this summer/spring. He has been helping his brother, Starry (formerly known, and known to most as Steve), and friend Jerry get their bikes ready for the Chase. And with their endless hours of help, they also got Mike's bike running. It wasn't until recently that it started running, so it definitely worried some of us (okay, me). But if anyone can pull something off, it's Mike.

The Sunday before the Chase, Mike drove his bike to restaurant that we met at. Here is a picture of his bike, him, and then some men who stopped and talked to him about the bike. As a bystander, this is super fun to watch --- It's super entertaining and fun watching how excited they (any motorcycle loving person) gets about talking antique motorcycles and the look people get when you drive one around!

Anyway, they took off for Michigan this morning! I have an update from Mike that I will post tomorrow, I need to get to bed because that alarm is going to come blaring early.

Godspeed to everyone on The Cross Country Chase! And I hope that this first blog post find everyone happy and healthy.
